Projects Requiring Authorization
What work requires authorization?
For all the following types of project, you should contact the experts in our Urban Planning and Development Division to get your project approved and obtain the necessary permit or certificate.

Projects in a Residential Zone (Single-Family Dwellings, Duplexes)
Most forms are in French only and some are in English:
- Addition
- Antenna
- Balcony, patio or terrace
- Changes to doors, windows and garage doors, even if the existing opening remains: colour, type, modulation, style, bay window, enlarging of existing openings: form to come
- Changes to grade levels (raising or lowering land levels)
- Creating an habitable attic space, dormers or skylights
- Demolition of a building
- Demolition of an accessory building or a pool
- Driveway: enlarging or repaving driveway
- Fence
- Garden shed or cabana
- Gazebo, arbour or pergola
- Geothermal system
- Irrigation system
- Landscaping: adding or modifying paved surfaces, planting hedges in front yards (respecting new green bands & vegetation and plant coverages)
- Mechanical equipment: heat pump, air conditioning or generator units
- Modify or renovate the exterior of a building
- New construction
- Repairing private sewage system
- Retaining wall
- Solarium, veranda
- Solar panels
- Structural changes: interior and exterior
- Swimming pool, spa or pond
- Tree cutting
Projects in Community, Institutional, Multi-family, Commercial or Industrial Zones
- Accessory building
- Addition
- Antenna
- Café-terrace
- Changing of exterior finishes
- Demolition
- Drilling, underpinnings and underground earth-retaining wall (mur berlinois)
- Driveway and Parking area: enlarging or repaving driveway
- Fence
- Geothermal system
- Interior and exterior renovations
- Irrigation system
- Landscaping: adding or modifying paved surfaces, planting hedges in front yards (respecting new green bands & vegetation and plant coverages)
- Location of the garbage/recycling container
- Mechanical equipment: heat pump, air conditioning or generator units
- Modification to openings
- New building
- New loading areas
- Occupancy: opening of a new business or modification of an existing business (step 1. needs to be completed before completing the Occupancy application form)
- Pad-mounted transformer (TSS)
