Overnight : possibility of a special permit

Issuing of Overnight Parking Permits

Except for certain parts of Town centre during certain periods, street parking in Mount Royal is limited to four hours on any one block.

Overnight parking on streets regardless of the 4-hour limit is allowed only if you have a temporary overnight parking permit. This rule applies from midnight to 8:00 everywhere within the territory of Town of Mount Royal, unless otherwise indicated.

However, you can obtain a free temporary overnight parking permit between 00:00 and 8:00 if you have visitors. Note that these permits are limited to a maximum of nine nights per month, per vehicle.

Need a temporary overnight parking permit between 00:00 and 8:00? Apply for your permit online, making sure to follow these steps in order:

  • First, create a user account to access the Town of Mount Royal's Public Security website.
  • Then, complete your profile by going to the "Profile" tab.
  • Then, register your vehicles' information by going to the "My vehicles" tab.
  • Once everything is completed, apply for your permit by going to the "Permit request" tab. Be sure to select the right vehicle with the right date before finalizing your request.
  • Once the application is submitted, you will receive a confirmation by email. Each permit will be detailed and accessible at all times in the "My permits" tab.

Please call Public Security at 514 734-4666 for any questions or for any other request that does not correspond to the night permit valid between 00:00 and 8:00. Indeed, requests for any other type of parking permit must be made by phone (emails not accepted) and must be approved by Public Security.

Home Watch

Are you planning to be out of town for a few days? Use our home watch service and leave with peace of mind! While you are away, our patrollers will check the outside of your home daily to ensure the doors are properly locked. They will even pick up and hold your mail until you return. Newspapers and flyers will be recycled.

Complete our online form to take advantage of this free service to Mount Royal residents. Please be sure to include any information that can be relevant to our patrollers.

You can also contact our call center to register by dialing 514 734-4666.

Home Alarm Response

Townies with a home security system can designate the Public Security Department as a responder for their alarm station and ensure a quick response when the system triggered. New members will receive official program stickers that may be affixed to the doors and windows of their home.

To take part in the program, please complete and sign the registration form and hand-deliver it to the Public Security Department (10 Roosevelt Avenue) during office hours, which are Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 to 16:30.

Neighbourhood Watch Program

The Neighbourhood Watch program is a crime prevention program that relies on communication between citizens and authorities. As neighbours, you are invited to look after each other in order to deter and prevent crime at the local level. You can contribute to the safety of your neighbourhood, simply by getting to know your neighbours.

Consult our information leaflet and our additional documentation (forms) concerning the Neighbourhood watch program.

Bicycle Engraving

In order to prevent bicycle theft and facilitate searches in the event of theft, Public Security offers a free bicycle marking service (engraving), available at all times. Once a bicycle has been marked, its number is entered in a register that is shared with the Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM). For deterrence purposes, a sticker is also affixed to the bicycle to clearly let people know that it is registered.

Fill out our online form to take advantage of this service.

List of Persons with Reduced Mobility

If you are a person with reduced mobility due to your age or a disability (impaired motor skills, vision or hearing, etc.), you can request to have your name added to the Town's list of persons with reduced mobility at the Public Security department. In the event of emergency situations, the Town will be able to advise emergency services of your particular situation.

Please complete this authorization form and contact our dispatch at 514 734-4666. A patroller will come to your office to pick up the document. A proof of identification will be required upon delivery of the form.

Child Car Seat Verification

TMR's Public Security is a member of the Child Car Seat Verification Network of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) since 2007. The members of the network are concerned about the safety of children in vehicles and have received special training on the recognized standards for inspecting seat installations.

Contact us and then bring your vehicle for a free inspection of your child car seat installation. Our patrollers will check the seat’s compliance and make any necessary adjustments.
