Following the City of Montréal’s lifting of water-saving measures, which were put in place due to emergency works on the main water main located under Atwater Avenue, we would like to thank you for your commitment and support.
We appreciate the steps you took and your compliance with the guidelines, which helped to keep water consumption below the thresholds set by the City of Montréal during the works, which lasted nearly four months.
On May 29, the City of Montreal announced that emergency works were needed on the main water main located under Atwater Avenue, which was at risk of imminent failure. This situation, combined with the shutdown of two other main water mains, led to the implementation of measures aimed at reducing drinking water consumption on the Island of Montreal during the summer.
Thanks to the efforts of all residents, these measures were successful, and the work carried out has strengthened the reliability of a critical component of the drinking water distribution network.
The measures and guidelines in effect to reduce drinking water consumption were lifted on September 23.
Now that the situation has returned to normal, we would like to remind you that continuing to practice responsible water use is essential to helping ensure better overall management of water consumption throughout the City of Montréal’s territory.
In closing, please watch the thank-you video from Wissam Ghandour, an employee of the City of Montréal’s Water Department.
