Last winter, the Town observed that some snow removal contractors using trucks equipped with front shovels continued to push snow onto public roads (sidewalks and streets) after clearing it from private driveways.
Although illegal, this practice forces municipal crews to start their work all over again, considerably slowing down snow removal operations in the city and causing significant irritation for residents.
Following this end-of-season observation, the Town decided to modify by-law 1432. The purpose of this amendment is to gradually increase the use of snowblower-equipped vehicles at the expense of shovel-equipped vehicles.
The snow removal contractors who do business with the Town's residents have all received an explanatory letter setting out the changes they will have to comply with for the coming season if they wish to obtain their permit.
