Around this time last year, I had the pleasure of telling you about our just adopted Water Supply By-law No. 1419, which brought the Town into line with the provincial government’s Quebec Strategy for Drinking Water Conservation.
Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting the twelve primary school students who will make up Mount Royal’s first Townschool Council. You can believe me when I say that it was a dozen on-the-ball young people whom we welcomed to Town Hall that evening to be sworn in as junior councillors.
Local businesses play an important role in community life. And for us Townies, that’s certainly true of our Town centre businesses. Town centre is where, among other things, we meet our neighbours and friends. Where our children gather with their classmates, just like they do in our parks.
Barely a month ago, had I had the pleasure of celebrating the resumption of activities at the Town library, which is once again welcoming its many users after a period of major work.
Let’s be frank about it: Choosing to commit as a town councillor is far from glamorous. More than for notoriety, you do it out of a desire to change things, to enhance your neighborhood.
You hear a lot about government debt and public finance these days. And that’s a good thing. When a city, province or entire country racks up deficits and significantly adds to its debt load, it is doing nothing less than limiting the financial manoeuvring room of future generations.
