Here is Mayor Peter J. Malouf's opening comments at the July 15, 2025 regular meeting of the Town Council. It has been adapted for the Web.
Note: The full recording of the meeting will be available on the Town's Youtube Channel.
" Good evening, everyone. Thank you for joining us tonight and following the news from your municipality. My monthly update will be brief so that we can get on with the meeting without delay.
New Sports and Community Centre
Good news. Work began early last week. The contractor is mobilizing his site and starting preparatory work. There will be no work during the two-week construction holiday, but everything will resume at the beginning of August. I would also like to remind residents that there is no interruption in services. Day camps have been successfully relocated to other parks and facilities, and everything is proceeding smoothly.
Sustainable development and Climate change committee
Considering that the term of office of the committee with the current elected members is coming to an end, I would like to thank the eight residents who are part of this committee, along with four council members, for their involvement in the community and for taking the time to participate in meetings and share their observations and concerns. Your comments will be used to inform the administration's thinking on future actions to be implemented. If all goes according to plan, we expect to hold one more committee meeting in September with the current elected officials. After that, it will be up to the new council to carry the torch forward.
In the meantime, we are formally submitting tonight the minutes of all meetings held so far.
Update on Various Projects
New Multifunctional Building
The call for bids for the construction of the new building that will house the fire station, public safety, and engineering and urban planning services has been launched. We hope to receive bids during the month of August.
Work on Lucerne
The first phase of Hydro-Québec’s work on Lucerne Boulevard is now complete. Crews will continue in the section between Côte de Liesse and Kindersley over the next few weeks.
Town Center – Water system and landscaping
Work on the Town Center water system is complete. We are now moving on to paving and landscaping the bike path. In addition, smart traffic lights designed to improve safety and traffic flow are expected to be installed in the coming weeks.
Pedestrian Footbridges
As for the footbridges, the Russell bridge is already in place, with finishing touches planned for August. The Montgomery bridge is expected to be completed in September.
Cycling network
You may have noticed that the markings have now been completed on Graham Boulevard and on the west side of downtown, in preparation for the creation of a protected bike lane.
This new configuration will have an impact on residents and motorists, who will have to adapt their traffic habits. This is a major project that will establish a direct bike link with the networks of neighboring boroughs.
