Here is Mayor Peter J. Malouf's opening comments at the August 26, 2025 regular meeting of the Town Council. It has been adapted for the Web.

"Good evening everyone,
Thank you for joining us tonight and for taking an interest in the life of our Town.
Community and Sports Centre
I am sure you are as pleased as I am to see the major construction site next to Town Hall. We have officially broken ground and are well on our way to making this long-awaited facility a reality for our residents.
Grants
We have received some very good news regarding our grant applications:
• $60,000 for work on the Laird Bridge
• $55,800 for work on the Cornwall Bridge
• $14,800 for the support program enabling young people with intellectual disabilities to participate in our recreational activities
I would like to warmly thank our teams for their efforts and initiatives, which have enabled us to obtain this financial support.
Cyclists, Scooters and Motorists and Joggers and Walkers
I would like to mention that the new designated bike paths have been well received by the community, and I fully recognize that we all have to make adjustments to our transportation habits, to ensure a safe cohabitation of users on our residential streets.
I have personally noticed a lack of safety and attention by all users of our roadways who are not respecting the light signals, stops signs or road directions and sidewalk usage.
I urge all residents to carefully pay attention and behave responsibly, defensively when cohabitating on our local roadways and arteries.
Everyone’s safety is a priority in our community, and we are all responsible for safety and respect with each other while we share common roadways and sidewalks.
Footbridges
- According to the latest information from REM, work on both footbridges will soon be completed:
- Russell: scheduled to open on August 28
- Montgomery: scheduled to open on September 5
Fall Fair
At the Fall Fair on September 20, we will once again have a booth to answer residents' questions about plumbing and sewer backups.
Day Camps
In closing, I would like to underline the outstanding work of our Recreation team. The start of construction at the Sports and Community Centre created additional challenges for this year’s day camps, yet they adapted quickly and ensured everything ran smoothly..
