Here is Mayor Peter J. Malouf's opening comments at the October 20, 2026 regular meeting of the Town Council. It has been adapted for the Web.
Note: The full recording of the meeting will be available on the Town's Youtube Channel.
" Good evening, everyone. I have a few updates to share before we begin tonight’s agenda.
I’ll start with some good news: construction on our new community and sports centre is now 52% complete. This marks an important milestone toward bringing this project to fruition for our community.
I’m also pleased to announce that yesterday, we selected the artwork that will be incorporated into the new community and sports centre, in accordance with the Quebec government’s Policy on the Integration of the Arts into Architecture.
The selected work is a three-part mosaic by renowned artist Alain Paiement. It will be a wonderful addition to the Centre and to the Town’s growing collection of public art.
We are particularly proud of this new addition to our artistic heritage. You can find out more about this artwork in the coming weeks on the Town’s website.
With each stage of construction, this much-anticipated addition to our Town becomes more tangible. I look forward to seeing residents of all ages enjoy the new centre.
On Côte-de-Liesse Road, repair and paving work began last week. Unfortunately, rainy nights have slowed progress. The work is being done at night and requires complete road closures.
I know these closures disrupt travel and daily routines, and I thank residents for their patience. We hope the weather will allow as much work as possible to be completed this fall.
The sculpture “Éclosion” was installed a few weeks ago, and its unveiling brought together the artist, guests, and university representatives. This majestic work now stands at the entrance to our Town, at the corner of Beaumont and Acadie Avenues.
I invite you to stop by and admire Éclosion. It is a beautiful addition to the public spaces we share and to the welcome our Town offers residents and visitors alike.
I would also like to highlight the remarkable success of the Cedars Run for Ovarian Cancer, which took place last Sunday in our garden city and raised more than $160,000 to support research.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the organizers, volunteers, and participants, as well as to the many TMR residents whose generosity and commitment to so many worthy causes reflect, once again, the remarkable spirit of solidarity that defines our community.
Thank you for your attention and participation. We will now move on to the agenda for this session.
I wish everyone a pleasant fall and a safe, Happy Halloween."
