Fire Prevention Week

Source: Sécurité publique du Québec (MSP)

As part of Fire Prevention Week 2026, the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal (SIM) is launching an awareness campaign focused on preventing fires caused by cigarette butts, with the participation of Georges Laraque.

In 2025, 411 building fires in the Montreal area were caused by smoking materials or open-flame objects. Every action counts when it comes to fire prevention.

This week is also a good opportunity to check your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. It is recommended to have at least one smoke alarm on every floor, including the basement, and to install them near bedrooms. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms should also be replaced after 10 years.
