The pedestrian overpass slated to be built by the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) and in use before demolition work on the Cornwall Bridge began continues to be postponed, despite repeated requests from Town of Mount Royal. Once in place, this temporary structure will give pedestrians an additional alternative for safely crossing the railway.
In early August of 2020, the Town received assurances that the overpass will be built in time for the return to school. In addition, in view of conditions on the construction site, it has been decided that the structure will be located on the Morrison/Melbourne axis, not the Lazard/Jasper axis.
During the closure of the Cornwall Bridge, the Lazard/Jasper level crossing will remain usable by emergency vehicles, if necessary. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed to use it.
