A public alert siren will be tested near TMR on Friday, September 23, between 16:00 and 20:00.

The siren at the Saputo plant (2365 Côte-de-Liesse Road) in Saint-Laurent may be heard by residents of the Town of Mount Royal who are located within the siren’s exposure zone. No specific measures should be taken with regard to this siren test.

The Centre de sécurité civile de Montréal, in collaboration with seven businesses in the urban agglomeration of Montréal, is coordinating this technical test intended to ensure that equipment is functioning properly and determine the readiness of all responders for emergency procedures. It is a good opportunity to inform the public of which actions to take should the siren sound during a major industrial accident involving the release of a toxic gas into the atmosphere.

If the Siren Blasts, Head Indoors Fast!

The alert sirens are meant to warn people who are outdoors to quickly find shelter should a toxic release occur. In the event of a toxic release, enter the nearest building, close the doors and windows and turn off the ventilation system. Do not attempt to go pick up your children at school as this may put you and your children in danger. Do not needlessly tie up phone lines. Following these guidelines will help ensure everyone’s safety and will greatly facilitate the work of first responders in the event of an actual toxic release.

After three (3) minutes, the alert signal will stop, and various media outlets will provide the public with safety procedures issued by public authorities regarding the situation at hand.
