2026 Action Plan for People with Disabilities

The Town of Mount Royal is proud to be a diverse and inclusive municipality. To ensure that we always remain as such, we make sure to follow our current Action Plan as a guideline of what needs to be done to keep the Town’s disabled people safe and included.

Simply put, the Action Plan aims to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in our town while supporting their integration into educational, professional and social environments.

The 2026 Action Plan was presented and adopted during the May 26, 2026 Town Council. It is a continuous step toward achieving the full and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in the Town of Mount Royal, making their commute, their sports activities and their workplace accessible and safe. We know about the valuable contributions that persons with disabilities make to our community!

2025 Action Plan Summary

Our 2025 Action Plan Summary, part of the new 2026 Action Plan, summarizes what was accomplished in the past year. For example, you will notice that improvements were made to the Library steps, making them more visible with white markings, or that most of the Town’s parks now have accessible swings and play equipment. Several of the items from the 2025 Action Plan are ongoing and are carried over to the 2026 Action Plan.

2026 Action Plan Objectives

As we implement the 2026 Action Plan, we will continue to look to persons with disabilities and community partners to ensure that it evolves to meet the changing needs of persons with disabilities.

There is now a larger Committee, composed of Town employees from almost all Departments, meeting regularly and looking for improvement opportunities.

This plan is for each and everyone. We all know someone with a difference or a disability. We all should feel concerned about making sure that everyone can participate in and contribute to our society, without barriers, limits, or discrimination.

We wish for persons with disabilities to have equal opportunities to contribute to our community, have equal opportunities to work, and enjoy the same quality of life as everyone else.

Leading by example, and by following our plan, we are confident that we can achieve a disability inclusive town that recognizes and celebrates the diversity, creativity, innovation, and contributions of persons with disabilities.
