News For a Fun and Safe Halloween Night

For a Fun and Safe Halloween Night

The Public Security team would like to share some tips for Halloween night. This way, young and old alike can enjoy a fun and safe Halloween.

Costumes and visibility

Be visible!

  • Choose light-coloured costumes or add reflective tape.
  • Carry a flashlight or glow stick so that motorists can see you clearly.

Wear a safe costume

  • Make sure masks do not obstruct vision and costumes do not drag on the ground.
  • Use non-toxic make-up rather than a mask covering the face.
  • Avoid accessories that are too rigid or sharp.

Comfort first!

  • Wear comfortable shoes for easy walking.
  • Make sure children can see and move freely.

Traffic and reduced speed

  • Motorists are asked to exercise extreme caution and slow down in all residential areas.
  • Be extra vigilant when approaching intersections, crossings and poorly lit areas.
  • Avoid non-essential car trips during peak trick-or-treating hours (between 17:00 and 20:00).

Accompanying children

Unfortunately, in recent years we have noticed that some parents are driving their children from door to door. This situation compromises everyone's safety and should be discouraged.

Although neither the Town nor Public Security has the “authority” to enforce this, we would like to remind you that it is much safer to walk with your children on the sidewalks and cross only at intersections to avoid any unfortunate situations.

Presence of Public Security and Police

Starting at 17:00 on Halloween night, several patrol officers will be on site and will be patrolling the streets of TMR. The patrol officers will be visible and will intervene in any situation that could pose a danger. Public Security has also requested increased police presence from PDQ 26 in the residential streets of TMR. There will be zero tolerance for double parking or parking that obstructs traffic during the Halloween night.

Street closures

Unfortunately, Public Security cannot close any street in advance, as this would have a direct impact on neighboring streets and residents who need to get to or from their homes. In addition, emergency services must be able to always access all areas of the Town.

However, if a hazard or situation were to arise, Public Security would intervene and could temporarily close a section of the street. Once the situation is resolved, the street would be reopened.

Checking candy

A few simple tips to follow once you get home:

  • Inspect all candy and snacks before giving them to your children.
  • Throw away any that are unwrapped, damaged or whose packaging appears to have been tampered with. Also throw away any fruit.
  • Avoid homemade treats from strangers.
  • Young children should eat their candy under adult supervision.
  • If in doubt, do not consume the product.
