One of the Town's seven directions, Public Security can be reached 24/7.
Contact the dispatch at 514 734-4666 to use (or at least reserve) the services below:
Home Alarm Response
Townies with a home security system can designate the Public Security Department as a responder for their alarm station and ensure a quick response when the system triggered. New members will receive official program stickers that may be affixed to the doors and windows of their home.
To take part in the program, please complete and sign the registration form and hand-deliver it to the Public Security Department (10 Roosevelt Avenue) at any time, day or night.
Neighbourhood watch program
The Neighbourhood Watch program is a crime prevention program that relies on communication between citizens and authorities. As neighbours, you are invited to look after each other in order to deter and prevent crime at the local level. You can contribute to the safety of your neighbourhood, simply by getting to know your neighbours.
Become a member
Become a member of the Neighbourhood watch program by registering online.
Planning to be away for a few days? Use our home watch service and leave with peace of mind! During your absence, our patrollers will check the outside of your home twice a day to ensure the doors are properly locked and everything is normal outside. They will even pick up and hold your mail (newspapers and flyers, however, will be put in the recycling bin).
How do you register for this service?
Call us to open your file. Please be advised that this service cannot be requested by e-mail. You must provide us with:
- Some information concerning your house
- A list of people to contact in case of emergency
In order to prevent bicycle theft and facilitate searches in the event of theft, Public Security offers a free bicycle marking service (engraving), available at all times as of July 2021. Once a bicycle has been marked, its number is entered in a register that is shared with the Service de police de la ville de Montréal (SPVM). For deterrence purposes, a sticker is also affixed to the bicycle to clearly let people know that it is registered.
Fill out our online form to take advantage of this service.
Issuing of overnight parking permits
Except for certain parts of Town centre during certain periods, street parking in Mount Royal is limited to four hours on any one block. However, you can obtain a free temporary overnight parking permit if you have visitors.
Please call us at 514 734-4666. Permit requests made by email will not be accepted. Note that these permits are limited to a maximum of nine nights per month, per vehicle.
Issuing of permits for gardening, treatment and maintenance of lawns, trees and shrubs
In order to operate in the Town of Mount Royal, lawn and garden contractors must hold a gardening permit issued by the Public Security Department. The permit is valid from January 1 to December 31 and must be obtained in person at the Public Security offices (10 Roosevelt Avenue). Come to our counter with a duly completed form, your vehicle registrations and proof of insurance (vehicle and company) to obtain your permit. The presentation of a CD4 certificate (issued by the Ministère du Développement durable, Environnement et lutte contre les changements climatiques) will also be requested.
Issuing of snow removal permits
Mandatory for all companies wishing to carry out snow removal work on the territory of Mount Royal, a snow removal permit can be obtained at the Public Security offices upon presentation of a duly completed form, registration of the vehicles that will be operating on the territory as well as relevant proof of insurance (vehicle and company). Our snow removal permits are valid from November 1 to October 31.
Home security inspection
Take advantage of our officers’ expertise to obtain security advice adapted to your particular needs. To better protect your home against theft, an inspection will be carried out on your property in your presence. Contact us today to make an appointment.
Child car seat verification
TMR's Public Security is a member of the Child Car Seat Verification Network of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) since 2007. The members of the network are concerned about the safety of children in vehicles and have received special training on the recognized standards for inspecting seat installations.
Contact us and then bring your vehicle for a free inspection of your child car seat installation. Our patrollers will check the seat’s compliance and make any necessary adjustments.
If you do not want to receive circulars, ask us for a sticker printed with the no-circular symbol. The stickers are offered free of charge. You should place your sticker in clear view on your mailbox or on the entrance door of your apartment building.
Note that you will continue receiving all Town publications and local newspapers.
