With summer in full swing, a popular time for outdoor work and tree trimming, Hydro-Québec wishes to remind the public of the dangers of handling tools and standing near power lines.
To avoid unfortunate accidents, we recommend taking the following three precautions before climbing anything or handling a long object (ladder, pool pole, etc.):
1. Check if there are any power lines nearby.
2. Ensure to keep objects at least three metres away from medium-voltage lines.
3. Also ensure that nothing comes into contact with low-voltage lines (which include lines that connect to your home). Even if an insulating sheath is covering the wires, it may be split somewhere, compromising the insulation of the conductors.
