BOMA BEST

BOMA BEST is the largest assessment and certification program in Canada with over 5,000 buildings certified or recertified since the program was launched in 2005. It is a unique, voluntary, online program designed by the industry, for the industry. It provides owners and managers with a consistent framework for evaluating the environmental performance and management of existing buildings, regardless of size. BOMA BEST certification for green buildings recognizes excellence in energy performance and environmental management in commercial real estate.

ENERGY STAR

Designed for many types of commercial and institutional buildings, this symbol of recognition shows that the building is certified as energy efficient. This can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, but also reduce operating costs and increase asset value. ENERGY STAR certification is issued by Natural Resources Canada.

ICI on recycle +

Focused on waste management, this recognition program developed by RECYC-Québec is recognized throughout the province. It offers 4 levels of certification, all of which provide coaching by professionals. As of March 1, 2023, this program had 360 attestations!

ISO

ISO offers several choices of certifications that can be applied to the building envelope only or to the building and the activities taking place in it. In terms of environmental management, ISO14001 is the certification to explore.

LEED

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) is a rating system recognized as the international mark of excellence for sustainable buildings in over 132 countries. There are four levels of certification: certified, silver, gold and platinum. A fifth version is being drafted in 2023.

Carbon Neutral

This Canada Green Building Council standard is the first program to make carbon emissions the primary indicator of building performance. It considers energy consumption in a holistic manner: peak electricity, GHG emissions associated with structural and envelope materials.
