The Town of Mount Royal's various committees play an active role in improving residents' quality of life and the town's healthy development, by making recommendations to the Town Council.
The Planning Advisory Committee (usually designated by its French acronym, CCU) is mandated by the Town Council to make recommendations concerning construction or renovation projects to be carried out on its territory.
CCU members meet every two weeks, according to a precise schedule, to study requests submitted in matters of urban planning and development.
The recommendations and opinions resulting from these studies give the Town Council greater decision-making power with regard to land-use planning and administration, notably in terms of minor exemptions, Site Planning and Architectural Integration Program (commonly referred to by its French acronym, PIIA) and construction projects, among others.

In Quebec, to oversee the planning and development within their jurisdictions, Towns and cities can adopt several types of urban planning bylaws. The Town of Mont Royal adopted a PIIA in 2003 to ensure the preservation and development of architecture and landscaping in harmony with the heritage inspired by the garden city movement.

Rather, it serves to ensure and support the development of architecture that harmonizes with the specific character that defines Town of Mount Royal and its heritage.

The Demolition Review Committee is made up of three members of the Municipal Council, and is responsible for reviewing demolition certificate applications submitted to the Urban Planning and Development Division.
At meetings convened by the Town Clerk, this committee delivers a motivated acceptance or refusal decision on the applications submitted, and follows up with the Urban Planning and Development Division and the Town Council.
