Mount Royal, February 6, 2019 – The Town of Mount Royal Public Security Department is taking action to revive the Neighbourhood Watch Program. As of February 11, 2019, Town residents will be able to learn more about the new program, which has been updated and improved but remains free of charge, and to sign up on the Town’s website.

Neighbourhood Watch is a crime prevention program whose success is based on intelligent communication between citizens and Public Security representatives, working as partners. The goal is to get citizens actively involved, mainly by building a network of closer relationships across a neighbourhood to ensure that any suspicious activity is quickly reported to the police. This simplifies prevention and crime-fighting at the local level even as it makes them more effective.

Ordered by the Public Security Department, some 150 program-branded signs will soon be installed on traffic corridors in all the Town’s residential neighbourhoods. Also, a starter kit will be given to all residents who join the program. The kit includes stickers to place on the home’s main windows, details about how the program works and other useful forms and information. You can sign up for the program online or by calling Public Security at 514 734-4666. All tools and information documents will also be made available on the website.
