Mount Royal, August 15, 2011 – Mount Royal residents will receive this week the fall 2011 and winter 2012 Activities and Programs Brochure from the Recreation, Culture and Community Activities Department. This will be an opportunity to admire, on the cover, Mount Royal Centennial Celebration logo, a local creation unveiled for the very first time.

Through a contest that ended last April, the Town of Mount Royal had appealed to its citizens for designing a logo that would epitomize the Centennial celebrations in 2012. Dozens of remarkable propositions piled up and following a challenging selection process, a panel decided in favour of a sketch by Michael Penyer. As stipulated by contest rules, the proud winner will see his or her work put to use all along the centennial as well as win a cash prize.

Mr. Penyer, a long time resident, took advantage of years of experience in advertizing and computer graphics when creating the winning logo. He used elements of Mount Royal iconography – the mountain and the rose – as well as colours of the Town’s coat of arms, especially green and blue, reworked them and skilfully gave rise to a logo evoking the celebrations to come with a decidedly festive tone.

The panel responsible for selecting the winning logo decided unanimously in favour of Mr. Penyer’s creation. However, considering the large number of propositions received, they needed serious deliberation.

Having found a logo for its celebrations, the Town of Mount Royal is now considering officially launching, at the end of the year, the Centennial’s program of event.
