The start of 2014, which is also the beginning of a new four-year term for Town Council, is an appropriate moment to tell you about the main issues on which your elected officials will focus their attention.

As I’ve stated before, our top priority remains ensuring that municipal finances are managed with discipline so the Town can keep tax rates as low as possible while also delivering superior quality services.

At the same time, protecting our built heritage will be even more front and centre. Basically, the Town’s elected officials plan to consult citizens and carry out a thorough review of Mount Royal’s urban planning regulations and procedures, including everything related to the work of the Planning Advisory Committee (CCU) and the Demolition Review Committee.

In addition, a flagship project of the new municipal administration will be to give Town of Mount Royal a new sports and recreation complex that will include an indoor pool, a gymnasium and spaces dedicated to sports and recreational activities. While this project remains contingent upon our obtaining government grants, we will do everything in our power to make it happen.

These initiatives and the others that will mark the coming years will enable the Town to remain a one-of-a-kind place that’s great to grow up and live in.

So, it’s a fresh start for your elected officials. They have four years to show they are there for you and to build on the dream that the Town’s founders brought to life 102 years ago.
