Town of Mount Royal has a surface area of 7.43 km² and a population of 21,198 (Gazette officielle du Québec, 2017). Both French and English are widely spoken. Not being a major tourist destination, the Town focuses instead on the exceptionally high-quality services it delivers to its inhabitants, known locally as Townies.
Our garden city is strategically located in the centre of the island of Montreal, at the nexus of the main east-west (Autoroutes 20 and 40) and north-south highways (Autoroutes 15 and 13), ensuring quick and easy access to downtown Montreal. The Town’s central location also puts it a short 15-minute drive from the Montréal-Trudeau International Airport.
Users of public transit can travel to and from Town of Mount Royal on Société de transport de Montréal (STM) bus lines 16, 73, 92, 100, 115, 119, 124, 165, 368, 460 and 535 or by metro to Acadie and Namur stations, both of which are located just outside the Town limits. Alternatively, the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT) has stops at our two stations, Mont-Royal and Canora, on its Deux-Montagnes suburban train line, which takes passengers to and from downtown Montreal in less than 10 minutes.
Regardless of whether you live here or are just visiting, our garden city will instantly charm you with its wealth of green spaces. Complementing the professional-quality landscaping found in private yards are some 30 parks and more than 70 other green spaces maintained by the Town. Our urban forest comprises nearly 9,600 trees on public land and many species flourish under our care. Adding in the trees on private property, Town of Mount Royal has as many trees as it does inhabitants.
Based on an urban plan developed in 1912, more than a century ago, and inspired by then cutting-edge movements – a plan from which the Town has essentially never wavered – Mount Royal was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2008. Today, building on a long tradition of excellence in urban planning and development, the garden city stands out for the quiet charm of its road network and the quality of its residential architecture, which makes it an excellent place to raise a family.
